One, two, three this is a test

Oh my! Years and years without blogging. I know, I'm a bad online friend but right now I'm okay without hanging out in the webs too much. I'm active in Tumblr though and I have a new fandom to obsess about.

How are you people?

Am I overreacting or not?

Today my mom and I had planned to go to a nice little restaurant, with family friends, for breakfast. This was an engagement we had with this friends to have a late celebration of Dia de la Candelaria.

Well, Dia de la Candelaria, in Mexico, means eating tamales and atole which is what we were going to be doing today, supposedly.

Let me give you a background story about one particular behavior of this family so you can see my point later. They have an only child, who was born when her mom was close to 35 and his dad was over 50. This child, Maria, is now 22; and is a lovely girl, except for the fact that she is a spoiled brat.

Most of the times, when we reunite, we visit a relative of my late grandma who is a friend of theirs too. They always offer to drive us to my aunt's house which is something they did when my grandma was alive so they always come buy and pick us at our house.

When we are going to visit my aunt they always say at what time they are going to pick us, but lately they call last minute with some stupid excuse to ask us to go over their house so we can leave from there. Don't think that I get upset because they aren't coming to my front door to pick us. I perfectly understand they are more than polite to offer the ride but I feel is rude to cancel at the very last minute and change plans. Last time my aunt was feeling unwell but wanted us to have lunch with her so my mom offered to cook and take the food there hoping my aunt could rest and recover quickly.

What happened is that Susana (Maria's mom) said she was going to come by around 1:30pm but she called AT 2:20pm (yup, 50 minutes later) to say that her husband (Maria's dad) was already late (he is a surgeon which provides a perfect excuse) and that she wanted to try a new shortest route to my aunt's so it was better if we departed from their house. I thought it was rude because she knew we were taking the food which was already packed to be just put in to the car and go. With the new plans we needed to change the trays to lighter ones which involved more time. She asked us to be at her house around 2:30pm (10 minute later after her call). Their house is not that far from ours but it's a 15 minute ride at least. Anyway, why didn't she call earlier? I told my mom that instead of taking a taxi to their house it was better to go directly to my aunt's. My aunt's house is a 45-60 minute ride but it was better to do just one ride than two because taking trays, bottles and plates from one car to other was a waste. Mom said no, why? Because it was rude from OUR part to do so.

Well, today we were going to a tamal restaurant in my neighborhood. I know Maria hates tamales so I was already suspecting the breakfast was not going to take place there but when I told my mom about my feeling she said I have a dark negative mind. Anyway, because my mom is having a bad time with her knees they offered to give us a ride to the restaurant. I argued with my mom about accepting the ride. Considering what happened last time I wasn't thrilled to accept anything from them, but mom had already said yes and she thought it was rude to decline their offer just then. I think mom was right about it though.

They were going to come around 9:30am but around 9:20 Susana called to say her husband was running late (again) and that they were going to be 20 minutes late. Five minutes later she called again, I picked the phone this time, and she told me "Maria doesn't want to eat tamales so do you mind going to this other restaurant?" I was tempted to say "I want tamales and so does my mom, what if we go to the original place, if Maria is hungry she can have a glass of milk or hot chocolate" of course I didn't said that. I said we didn't mind. She said that as the new place was closer to my house we could meet there in 10 minutes.

Don't you think that's rude? I'm sure that if I were Maria my mom wouldn't have allowed me to change the plans just because I didn't want to eat tamales. In the first place, mom would have chosen a different place right from the beginning and if it was a Dia de la Candelaria celebration my mom would have applied the policy my grandma had. If you don't like the food you have two options: Eat it without breathing or ask for a glass of water instead.

The most irritating thing is that I was able to figure out why we didn't have breakfast at the tamal place. The new chosen place was the restaurant of a department store (such as Liverpool or Sears) and Maria was running out of her very expensive Dior eye cream (her words not mine). Also, the resident Dior make up artist offers her a free facial when she purchases something from the brand. So, the real reason was that Maria needed to go to this department store so she manipulated her mom to change the family's engagements to suit her needs. Also, she told me they were late because she had to woke up earlier than her normal weekend schedule (she wakes around noon) so she was the last one to get up therefore the lateness.

I asked my mother to decline any offering of car ride from now on, I rather take a taxi than be left wondering if they will change plans at the last minute. I also asked my mother to decline any reunion taking place at a restaurant, specially if my aunt is not invited or is not involved in any way. When my aunt is involved they may be late but they would never change plans. They seem to respect my aunt more than they respect us. Susana seems to be more likely to change plans, specially if it suits her daughter's needs, only if this affects my mom and I; they spare others of their behavior. They say that we are like family so they feel comfortable enough with us.

I don't care if they feel comfortable with us, I think that some of the things they do are rude and have nothing to do with trust or comforting levels. I understand that things happen, many are inevitable, but they change plans just because they don't have the discipline to arrive when they said they were going to or because is a hassle to do something they offer to do. If they feel like that then don't offer any help, period.

Do you think I'm being too judgmental?

Now an odd question...

I have a strange question for you.

What do you think of women who do their makeup at the office. I mean, not at the restrooms but at their cubicles.

Where I work there are two kind of cubicles. One is really a private with a door but the office policies forbid to close it. Other cubicle is like mine, I have like 1.5 square meters of space, there are three divisions (more like screens) that serve as walls and one side is completely open. I can see the person right in front me.

With this information do you think is correct to apply ones makeup at the cubicle, either the private one or the more generic one like mine?

I ask because the secretary does her makeup at her cubicle but another girl does it at the rest room (which is more annoying considering we have one sink to wash our hands). Oh! and I do it at home but for touch ups I go to the rest room or do it at my cubicle if my neighbors aren't in theirs.

Writing my first entry of 2013 and see some changes on LJ's posting format. I'm very slow with this things, specially now that I don't have the time to come here as often.

Anyway, it's been a few months since I've posted here so New Year's best wishes go to each and every one of you. I know this should have said earlier (11 days ago) but better now than never. Read more... )

I was reading my friends' page on livejournal and suddenly I can't access the site anymore. It looks like if it's down which is not because the status page says so.

Oh well....

I broke one of my golden rules. I don't really regret it because I'm having fun but certainly it's been uncomfortable for some around.

I don't talk about politics unless the conversation is among people that I've known for some time and I know they respect what's said.

One of my work's friends shared an interview on his FB, all of the people that commented is part of a group of friends that fit the "I can talk about politics" category. However, there is one guy who I don't know (he works at the office too but have never met him) and is ruining everyone's fun. He is using troll tactics to make his points.

Thank God, being an Spike and Spuffy fan for years have given me tools to handle the troll. It's been fun to make him see his points are the product of anger more than brains but I know it's been uncomfortable for others who actually have the guy sitting next to them.

So, I will have to drop the subject which makes me sad.

I so need to get a new fandom to spend time on and avoid real life.

I heard there is a fandom wank in progress but as I'm away from any fandom I have no idea if it is a btvs-comic related wank or a btvs fanfic wank or a james marsters fandom wank.

Yes, there are moments when I feel like if I never belonged to those fandoms which is kind of sad, I mean I was obsessed with all Buffy things and now I don't even watch shows with Buffy actors anymore (Bones or Castle, for example).

And all of a sudden I remembered Jason Dohring! I remember how much I loved Logan Echolls. Sad that Jason hasn't had the opportunity to shine yet.

I still don't get how this "mutual access", "mutual subscriptions", "also has/gives accesss" and "other suscriptions" work in Dreamwidth.

Seriously, I cannot be that dumb, right?

Is this gossip something new? And the biggest question I have, is this really important?

Now that people is agains SOPA and PIPA. Did you know that in Mexico we are having a similar issue? Last December, when everyone was busy getting ready for the Holidays, Mexican Senator Federido Doring, presented what is now called "Doring Law".

Just to be brief, if approved this law could give an institution called IMPI (Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Intelectual "Mexican Institute for Intellectual Propriety") a go to ask ISPs for the personal information of users under suspicion of copyright and intellectual propriety infringement. This is a direct violation of our right of privacy. First because IMPI is not a part of any law enforcement agency and second because there are legal holes that could mean in IMPI gaining access to personal information for purposes other than anything related to copyright or intellectual propriety.

This is somehow linked to ACTA but not quite so. Senator Doring opposed to ACTA and was part of the committee that urged President Calderon to not sign ACTA. Curiously the Doring Law would end in the same thing that ACTA would have. The personal information open to IMPI which is heavily sponsored by entertainment business companies who are negotiating with the government and with political parties (we have presidential elections this year and will change the senate and congress too).

It also opens the door to censorship, just as we had 15 years ago when the PRI party was majority (PRI party ruled for 70 years, the worst thing that has happened to us).

I'm so confused with the Megaupload issue. I will say it this way and I know that many American friends may be offended but I won't censor myself.

I think there are priorities like finding a way to end the drug use in the US so my country's drug cartels can't have the largest market of consumers.

Right now I'm obsessing with Take That. It's been ages since a band has had this effect on me. Back in the 90s I listen to them and loved them but not as much as I do now. I need TT icons as in now. :)

Me again...

I haven't been around LJ that much lately, I apologize for that. It feels weird to have it unavailable when you want to use it. Other thing, I remember reading my friends' pages yesterday and I saw a few entries regarding the DoS attacks LJ has been suffering lately. I swear I wanted to read it but at the end I didn't now I wish I could know why LJ it's been attacked.

Anyway, I'm glad to have this back up but I'm nervous over losing entries at LJ. I backed up my journal here, when I opened this account; since I haven't been very active I don't think there are more than 50 entries to add, will have to make a priority to remember how backing up is done. Lol!

I want this and this for my iPhone. They will be sold next August but Comic Con attendees will be able to buy them at the Dark Horse booth (#2615).

I wish I could get them here.

Saturday obsession

I blame [info -] totallybalanced for reminding me of the cute boys of Lord of The Rings, so I'm now watching The Two Towers/The Return of The King and compulsively pushing the pause button to stare at Karl Urban, Viggo Mortensen and my secret lover David Wenham (♥♥) whose film "Better than Sex" will be playing in my DVD in a few hours (me thinks.).

Update about Canadian visa

I was reading on the newspaper about the misadventures of those who had already applied for a Visa to visit Canada.

First, the Canadian staff was clueless of what to do, no protocols were set so each person handled things differently. Second, all the interviews were held in English as most of the consuls don't know how to speak Spanish, the results were misunderstandings everywhere. Third, because of the misunderstandings people complained of the staff being elitist and racist because most of the consuls rushed the interviews and ended them abruptly (I would say it was desperation). Fourth, most of the applications were rejected and visas were denied; statistically the percentage of denied visas is bigger than that of the American which denies visas to almost anyone (of 200 applications just 15 visas were issued). ETA: Fifth: Applications had to be filled in English or French. Just as reference, in the American Embassy the application has to be filled in Spanish.

The main reason to deny visa was that people failed to demonstrate they are financially capable, surprisingly they denied the visa to the son of the third richest man in the country for that reason.

I think that the main problem is that there are no protocols and the Embassy staff don't speak Spanish and even if many here speak English it seems that everyone was confused about what to do.

The Canadian government said that the Mexican government has known about the visa application for a while but is The Canadian government to decides when to start this policy so I think that if it is chaos is because their lacked planning.

I feel for those who need to get the visa.

ETA 2: The same is happening to the Czech but at least they have dignity because they removed their Ambassador and are asking visas to Canadian diplomats traveling to The Czech Republic, I think we should do the same.
